Snow condition: layer of snow, powder in the tree
Before this session, I have been practicing skiing since coming back from the Japan trip at the end of January. Just looking at the snow forecast, I feel like I deserve a little break from ski and back on my trusted snowboard. Also, prior to this, I have been mostly on-piste in whistler-blackcomb. It is time to explore! For finding tree runs, I was mostly referring to this video.
The day started quite unusually, we picked up a stranger as we head up Blackcomb. Turns out she’s just on a ski trip from San Francisco! Just incredibly lucky to come during the most powder-ous day of the season. We went for 2 laps around glacier chair before our new friend left for airport. Not gonna lie tho, there was a lot of mogul on the blue run from crystal chair to glacier creek.
After our new friend departed, we started the exploration from Rendezvous. There was a lot of slow down on the side of the road and see if we could drop in. Eventually we found a nice big entrance underneath a route sign, maybe around Gnarly knots. It was a blast going down, and we still ot some powder. The whole adventure continues in and out of tree until we reached excelarator chair. This might have been the first time we take excelarator chair outside of the morning upload.
After a little lunch break, we head over to cystal chair for more exploring, as I heard there are some decent trees over there. We got to an entrance that leads to either a single black or a double black. I can only say that there are A LOT of mogul there. Not my cup of tea, but it could be for someone.
After that FUN mogul run, we continue to explore crystal chair area, going into trees whenever we could. There are places, big or small, that you can go thru. It really is diffferent from the big alpine on-piste skiing that we used to do. Making it a really great day.
unfortunately, as we tried to leave whistler, the traffic is basically stuck with accidents on either of the road that we could use to leave whistler. We must’ve been stuck there for 2~ish hours. Nevertheless, it was a great day!
